EMPLOYEE STORIES
People come to PNC with a variety of interesting experiences, bringing transferable skills from a wide range of industries. We’d like to introduce you to a few of them. Hear what they have to say about our culture and what makes them proud to be a PNC employee.
Ana O.
I started my career with PNC four years ago as a Teller Lead in the Chicago Loop Region. While building my skills in banking and exploring the Human Resources area, I decided to go back to school to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Development/Management. Using PNC’s education benefit, through Guild, to go back to school was the best decision I’ve made for my career growth. My branch manager has provided support and guidance throughout my education journey. Through PNC’s Diversity & Inclusion mentoring program, I was connected with my mentor, who is a member of PNC University. My mentor encouraged me to apply to PNC’s Human Resources Development Program. I am proud to be part of PNC. My advice to future and current development associates is to own your career, talk about your development with your manager, build relationships and do your best.
Ana O.
Development Program Associate
Morgan W.
I started my career with PNC in 2017 as a part-time Regional Resource Team member in our Detroit market. I moved to South Florida in 2019 to expand my network and advance my career. Growing my skills and accelerating my career have always been priorities for me. Joining the Development Program in 2021 was the perfect way to help me do both.
I started in the branch leadership track in our Retail organization. Our South Broward team welcomed me with open arms! Various business bankers mentored me during my time in Retail, and I quickly realized that business banking is a passion of mine.
I am now an Associate Relationship Manager for our business banking team in South Florida. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the exposure and opportunities the Development Program provided me.
I highly recommend the Development Program to anyone looking to advance their career and gain knowledge and insight into the value PNC brings to our customers and colleagues. Come to work with a gracious, curious heart and a positive attitude, and the Development Program will be your launch pad to anywhere you want to go within PNC!

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS—INTERNAL CANDIDATE FAQs
PNC’s line of Business Development Programs gives early-career employees the exposure, opportunity, and support to help them develop and grow. The opportunity to apply and join a program is now open to all qualified employees. As this is a new opportunity for many, please see some frequently asked questions below for more information.
Experience and Qualifications
What is the ideal candidate profile for a Development Program application?
Programs are designed for early career talent who need the following:
- Hard skill development (job-related knowledge and abilities employees need to perform their job duties effectively) for the line of business for the chosen program
- Soft skill development; for example, leadership and communication skills and the personal qualities that help employees thrive in the workplace
- Need to grow their professional network
- Would benefit from gaining exposure to and experience in multiple areas within a line of business. The ideal candidate is an employee with:
- 0-3 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of experience without a Bachelor’s degree
- Meets All Expectations or above performance rating
Additionally, each program may have specific skill requirements that need to be met before a candidate can begin the program.
Can managers join the Development Program?
Yes, our ideal candidate includes individual contributors and managers who meet the general parameters of the candidate profile.
Will skills I’ve acquired through courses taken in iLearn be considered once I apply (for example, technical skills SQL, etc.)?
We encourage you to include specific skills on your resume that you have developed through iLearn, other PNC resources and external programs.
If I’m interested in a specific Development Program, do I need a degree in that field, i.e., an HR degree if I’m interested in the HR program?
Candidates are selected based on skills, competencies and fit for the role in relation to other qualified candidates. Some programs may require certain skills, requirements, or qualifications to apply to the program, which can be found within the job postings.
I’m looking to change career paths but have more than five years of experience. Can I still apply to a Development Program?
A Development Program may be a good fit for you if you are making a career change and are starting as an early-career professional in your new field. Ideal candidates need development in all four areas our programs develop: hard skills, soft skills, network building, and exposure to and experience in multiple areas within a line of business. Individuals with five years of experience will often not need development in one or more of these areas. In this case, more targeted development may be a more effective way to advance your career.
Program Design and Content Details
Development Programs support early career talent in growing their career and knowledge within a designated line of business. Participation in the Development Program is a full-time paid position. Programs are currently offered across 12 lines of business, some with multiple tracks. This year you will see 12 programs being offered internally on Inside Track. Programs vary in length from 12-36 months and follow a structured, non-customizable path. Analysts follow a strategically designed learning path that includes structured, experiential and social learning, mentorship opportunities, coaching and feedback. Upon completion, program graduates gain the knowledge, skills, and tools to meet or exceed the essential functions of key roles within their line of business.
How do I determine which program I should apply for? Can I only apply for the program within my current line of business?
We would encourage you to review the competencies of your current role and compare them to the competencies of the roles within the different programs, including those outside of your current line of business.
Think about your knowledge, skills, abilities, strengths, and the opportunities for learning and development offered by the various Development Programs.
Is it possible to move within the different tracks and programs to get exposure to other lines of business?
No. While programs do have rotations, they occur within each line of business. Our Development Programs prepare analysts with the knowledge, skills, and tools to meet or exceed the essential functions of key roles within their program line of business.
If I go through the Development Program and then determine that I am best suited to the role I was in before joining the program, can I go back to my previous role?
The Development Program is a full-time role. If accepted into a program, you would vacate your current role and begin the program on the designated start date. Internal job posting and acceptance requirements apply to all Development Program roles.
What career levels are Development Program positions classified as?
All Development Program roles are a “TR” career level.

Can I apply to a program if I have been in my current role for less than 12 months?
Internal job posting eligibility requirements apply to all Development Program roles. We encourage you to talk with your manager if you have been in your current role for less than 12 months. As you have that conversation, consider that most programs will start in February 2024, so by then, you might have been in your role for 12 months or longer.
Can I apply to more than one program?
There is no limit to the number of programs to which you can apply, but we recommend choosing the business that best complements your skills and interests, and best supports your career aspirations.
After I apply, what are the next steps in the process?
Once you apply for a program, you will be given a link to complete a HireVue screening. If the business decides to move you forward, you will be contacted by a recruiter to schedule your interview and will be invited to attend a pre-night event. Interviews will be hosted virtually or in person depending on market location.
What if I am on vacation or unavailable on the interview day?
If you are taking vacation or are otherwise unavailable during the interview day, we can work with you to reschedule it.
If I get an offer to join a program, when will it begin?
Most internal candidates will begin their programs in February 2024; however, some programs will begin in June or August 2024. You will receive more information about your start date during the interview.
