Jobseeker Tips & Resources
Q: I haven’t updated my resume recently. Do I need a current resume to apply for an opening?
A: The first time that you submit your interest for a position at PNC, you will be asked to create a career profile including a resume and other information in Workday. Workday will allow you to upload a resume so that your information will populate in various Career Profile fields vs. having to manually enter your work history. To upload a resume, you’ll see “Upload My Experience” in the “Overview” section of your Career Profile; then you’ll click “Upload” to find and upload your resume. Once you’ve added or uploaded your career experience into your Career Profile, you will be able to use your Career Profile in Workday when applying for positions at PNC.
Q: How can I make my resume stand out?
A: There are a number of methods to make your resume more interesting:
- Tailor your resume to the job description.
- Make your resume easy to read, with simple formatting.
- Use action verbs to describe your prior experience.
- Be sure to proofread your resume for spelling and grammar.
Q: How can I prepare for an interview?
A: There are several strategies you can use to be well prepared. These include:
- Speak with people who are familiar with the department in which you are interviewing. This insight can be helpful in composing questions for the interviewer.
- Know your strengths, and be ready to discuss how your skills and expertise fit the needs of the team or department.
- Prepare for behavioral interview questions. Think about specific examples that show how you have used critical skills that demonstrate your ability to succeed.
- Concentrate on developing complete answers that speak to the Situation, Task, Action and Result. This is easy to remember using the acronym STAR.
- Quantify your results in terms of dollars or percentages that reflect savings, business growth and/or process improvements.
- Review the job description and your resume just prior to the interview so that the specifics are fresh in your mind.
Q: I’m not sure if I’m right for the job. Should I still apply?
A: To best position yourself for success, be honest and objective when assessing your skills. If your resume cannot demonstrate that you are well-suited for the job, consider other positions instead.

A: Be sure to read the “How to Apply” section on this site. If that does not answer all your questions, you can find a full array of helpful tools within Pathfinder. You can explore our Job Posting Procedure, Recruiting Process and more.
Q: When/how should I notify my current manager that I’m interviewing for an internal position?
A: If your resume is sent for hiring manager review, your manager will notified at that time. However, you are encouraged to have a conversation with your manager when applying for positions.
Q: How soon will I know if I got the job?
A: Because of the number of candidates we receive, it typically takes an average of 59 days to fill an opening. Use your time wisely by staying in touch with the recruiter and reviewing new positions.
Q: When am I eligible to submit interest to open positions on Inside Track?
A: Eligibility Requirements:
- Time-In-Job requirement: Employees are required to be in their current job code for a minimum of 12 months before posting for open job requisitions.
- Employees must have a Meets Some Expectations or above performance rating to post for open job requisitions.
- Employees who are on probation are not eligible to post for open job requisitions.
Please refer to the Job Posting Procedure on Pathfinder for a more detailed overview of the policy.
Special Notes:
1. Displaced employees are excluded from the above eligibility requirements and can post for open job requisitions after they have received formal notification of their position being eliminated. Displaced employees who have questions regarding eligibility should contact the Employee Relations Information Center (ERIC).
2. If you are considering expressing interest in a position within a department in which a relative or someone with whom you have a serious personal relationship works, report this to the recruiter or Employee Relations Information Center (ERIC) prior to posting for the position to determine if a conflict of interest exists per the Conflict of Interest in Employment (Nepotism) Policy.
Q: Is there an Exception Process to our job posting policy?
A: It is expected that employees will be in their current job code for at least 12 months and have at least a Meets Some Expectations performance rating. The exception process is within industry standards among most organizations. However we do recognize exceptions may be warranted due to unique circumstances. These exceptions require the approval of the individual’s manager prior to posting.
Examples of circumstances that may be considered for an exception include the following:
- A significant change in an employee’s current job responsibilities or an employee’s skill set that is not aligned with the job and/or department.
- Interest expressed by an employee in changing status (full-time to part-time or part-time to full-time).
- A change in an employee’s work schedule/hours.
- Near completion of the 12-month time-in-job requirement by an employee.
- Relocation by an employee.
- Employees who believe an exception is warranted should review the Exception Procedure below:
Exception Procedure:
Managers will receive a posting exception task via the Workday Inbox for an employee who is seeking to apply for a PNC position if that employee has not been in their position for a twelve month period or does not have at least a “Meets Some Expectations” or above performance rating. From Pathfinder, go to Workday and navigate to your Inbox. Locate the “Internal Career” message, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Approve” or “Decline.” Your employee is not able to move forward in the process without you approving the task in Workday. In addition, your employee will be sent a notification of your decision. If approved, the employee will be able to post to open job requisitions.
Please refer to the Job Posting Procedure on Pathfinder for a more detailed overview of the policy.

Q: I’ve clicked to apply for the job and decided the job might not be the right fit. What are some tips to resume my job search?
A: Once you click to apply for a job through Inside Track, it will open a new page, starting the application process in Workday. If you no longer want to move forward with your submission of interest, just click back on the tab for Inside Track to search for another job. At the bottom of the job description page on Inside Track you will find additional job recommendations that may also be a fit. Check them out first and if you are not interested in pursuing, go back to the job search homepage and re-start your search.
Q: What are the benefits of the new job search functionality?
A: We’ve re-imagined the job search experience for our employees by providing fast and seamless job search results. Instead of selecting various search criteria and wading through jobs on a separate results page, users can now input keywords or requisition #, Area of Interest, geographic location or job titles in the job search fields and view search results on the integrated Location Map down to the PNC building/location, or in the job search results below — all on the same page, in real time. It is designed to be lightning fast, so employees can find what they’re looking for, and apply for their next potential great role at PNC.
